2.2 for 22q Awareness Walk

by Summerly Rowlands

Our first annual 2.2 for 22q awareness walk was an overwhelming, incredible success!

This event took place on Sunday, July 16, 2023 at the Jackson North Park. Sign in, shopping, lunch, and raffle baskets were held in the pavilion, while the walk happened around the track ~ 2 laps for an exact 2.2 miles! 138 of us walked in unity, drawing attention from the softball tournament families and others around the park who stopped to ask us about our cause and made their way over to join us throughout the morning.

I really wasn’t sure how my first event would go, and I was blown away. I am so grateful for each and every person that came to support and all of those who supported from afar. While we had our walk in Ohio, we also had loved ones sending photos from their 2.2 miles in other various states and even another country!

A HUGE thank you to our 6 sponsors helping to make this whole event possible:

And of course thank you to those who added to the Akron Children’s Hospital genetic division contribution. We were able to raise $3,863 and I, along with the hospital and Izzy’s geneticist, could not be more appreciative.

The my22qt mission is to raise awareness for 22q11.2, to educate others and help diagnosed families cope, and to pay it forward to the genetics division of Akron Children’s Hospital. All 3 of these pillars were met in one event and I am 100% looking forward to next July for year 2! 💙
